100th Bhimnidhi Tiwari Jayanti and Daibagyaraj Neupane condolence program

INLS New York Chapter organised 100th Bhimnidhi Tiwari celebration on 22 January 2012 at Chautari Restaurant. The celebration was attended by many literary lovers, press and social workers. H. E. the Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations graced the occasion.

One minute silence was observed as respect to Daibagyaraj Neupane, who passed away on 17 December 2011..

We would like to announce that the Election Committee has received the following nominations by the nomination closing date. Please also be advised that the withdrawal deadline is 22 August 2011.

The Election Commission, INLS New York Chapter, solicits nominations from interested and eligible members of INLS, New York Chapter for the following positions along with a nomination fee of $20.

President -1
Vice President -1
General Secretary – 1
Treasurer -1
Executive Members – 3

Eligibility criteria:

All candidates shall be members in good standing for at least past six months and candidates for President should have served at least one full term in any of the executive positions. Nominations shall be sent to the Election Commission care of Yakshya Malla ( email: yakshya@yahoo.com).

Upon invitation from the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations, INLS NY President participated in the birth anniversaries celebration of two most popular and most well respected Bengali Poets- Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. Tagore was the first non-European to be awarded Nobel Prize in 1913. He is perhaps the only litterateur who penned anthems of two countries India and Bangladesh. Nazrul is known as the National Poet of Bangladesh. The

program was organized by the Bangladeshi Permanent Mission to the UN in New York on June 5, 2011. Both the poets were born in the month of May. It was 150th anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore and 112th anniversary of Nazrul Islam. The program was attended by scholars, litterateurs, researchers, diplomats and literary lovers of Bangladesh and other SAARC countries. Various speakers, litterateurs and poets either highlighted the contribution of Rabindranath Tagore, Commented on his works or recited his poems. President INLS NY Jyoti Poudel recited Rabindranath's poem “Golden Boat" in Nepali which she translated herself from English. Click below for:

INLS NY is organizing 198th Bhanu Jayanti on July 16, 2011 at Astoria Park, New York at 11 AM.

Those interested to present their poems or other short literary articles in the program should express their interest by email to: generalsecretary@inlsny.org not later than July 9, 2011. Children are encouraged to participate with their articles. Delicious Nepali lunch will be served after the program at about 2.30 PM.

INLS New York and other eleven Nepali organizations jointly organized Blood Donation and Free Health Check-up camp at Chian Federation, 4401 Broadway, Astoria, NY 11103 on May 8, 2011 from 11AM to 4PM. All together 56 Donors donated their blood and 67 people had their helth check-up done for free. Minister Counselor of the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations Mr. Amrit Rai presented the certificates to the organizors, Donors and the volunteers on behalf of the Chief Guest His Excellency Gyan Chandra Acharya, Permanent Representataive of Nepal to the United Nations.
